Trump Believes He’s The Reason Shedeur Sanders Was Drafted
|

It’s impossible to find out why former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock fell, but there is one person who wants all the credit for getting him drafted: President Trump.
As Sanders fell from a guaranteed first-round draft pick, President Trump, like most of America, couldn’t believe what he was seeing, so he took to his personal diary, Truth Social, to question the intelligence of NFL brass who weren’t picking the second-best quarterback in the draft.
“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?,” wrote Trump. “He should be “picked” IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN.”
On Monday, during a press briefing with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked if the president should get credit for Sanders finally getting drafted in the fifth round.
“All I will say is the president put out a statement and a few rounds later he was drafted. So, I think the facts speak for themselves now, Peter,” Leavitt said, Politico reports.
From Politico:
Shedeur Sanders was a long-projected top pick in mock drafts and media circles ahead of the 2025 NFL draft last week. But the former University of Colorado quarterback was skipped over during the first four rounds.
His draft stock was partially hampered by physical limitations, scouts said. He boasts a great touch and is a phenomenal processor of the game. But he’s far from an elite athlete, and some have questioned his arm strength and speed.
The political online publication isn’t quite the best place for sports analysis, but Politico noted that Sanders’ fall had much to do with him bombing interviews, which is questionable since every report of Sanders allegedly turning off coaches with his answers has been connected to anonymous reports. Politico also notes that Sanders refused to work out at the NFL scouting combine, which actually isn’t that unusual, as the first pick in the draft this year was Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who also didn’t participate in the NFL combine.
It’s unclear whether Leavitt meant her statement as a joke, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump actually believes he’s the reason Sanders was drafted. Now, let’s see if he demands a “thank you” from Sanders as he did in 2017 after he allegedly helped UCLA players after they were arrested in China for reportedly stealing items from a store. LaVar Ball’s son, LiAngelo, was among those arrested. Ball claimed that the president didn’t play a real role in getting the boys released.
Trump then told reporters, ‘I should have left them in jail.’
