Warren recently sat down with NewsOne Senior Editor Bilal Morris to talk about the latest presidential debate, voter suppression in Southern and Republican-led states, as well as some initiatives to help protect your vote.

Fact-checkers were at work during the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump as Trump time and time again tried to steer each conversation away from the truth.

Harris’ debate strategy was solid as she triggered Trump’s insecurity by questioning his popularity and political prowess, which completely sent him off the rails.

Harris was also able to discuss policy as she promised Americans a $6,000 child tax credit, a $25,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers and a $50,000 tax credit to start small businesses.

Eventually, VP Harris began to poke at Trump’s ego, which infuriated the former president. During the debate, Harris taunted Trump to his face, asserting that, “people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.”

Trump became visibly agitated and dropped the line of the night, claiming Haitian immigrants were “eating dogs.”

After discussing the debate, NewsOne and LaShawn Warren discussed voter suppression and ways the organization plans to stop it.

As previously reported by NewsOne, in July, Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger rolled out the Voter Registration Cancellation Portal, which allows people to cancel voter registrations when someone moves out of state or dies without notifying anyone.

The launch of the site was a massive problem as a glitch in the rollout allowed people to access a voter’s date of birth, driver’s license number and last four numbers of a Social Security number, according to AP. This was the same information needed to cancel a person’s registration without their knowledge.

Other voter suppression tactics like this are being used throughout states in the South.

Check out our conversation with LaShawn Warren below as we discuss the solutions and policies to combat voter suppression.
