The mastermind behind The Best Man film franchise is officially bringing the beloved characters to the literary world with a brand new novel series. Titled The Best Man: Unfinished Business, the first book in the series will hit shelves this summer through Storehouse Voices.
Co-authored by acclaimed novelist Jayne Allen (Black Girls Must Die Exhausted), the story picks up where the 2022 Peacock series The Best Man: The Final Chapters left off. Fans can expect to follow Harper, Jordan, and Robyn as they navigate unconventional parenthood, mid-life crises, and second chances at love.
Lee and Allen aren’t stopping there. There are two additional books are already in the works, with releases slated for 2026. Speaking to PEOPLE, Allen shared how “thrilling” it was to collaborate with Lee and bring new depth to the characters through the written word.
“I hope that fans will love this fresh take on the well-known characters, especially to discover their voices sparkle as brightly on the page as they do on the screen,” Allen added.
Taye Diggs, who originated the role of Harper Stewart in the 1999 film, also expressed his excitement.
“This kept even me on the edge of my seat,” Diggs said in a press release. “Unfinished Business dives deeper into the lives of these characters… From second-chance romance to wrestling with heartbreak and purpose.”
Morris Chestnut, who plays Lance, reflected on the franchise’s staying power: “When I met these classic characters twenty-five years ago, no way did I think they’d have the longevity that they’ve had, but Malcolm Lee keeps elevating the storytelling.”
With laughter, drama, and a whole lot of heart, The Best Man: Unfinished Business promises to be the perfect summer read for longtime fans and newcomers alike. Whether you’ve been rocking with the crew since 1999 or just discovered them on Peacock, this new chapter is sure to deliver the same unforgettable magic — only now, one page at a time.
