Little Marco Rubio Boasts About Shuttering USAid Because That’s What Rich People Do

And just like that, the world is a much better place now that the Trump administration and America’s “first friend” Elon Musk have gutted USAid, the evil agency looking to help underprivileged countries recover from disaster and poverty. 

Because the new America hates poverty and disaster and helping and hope.

The normally silent Secretary of State Marco “Little Marco” Rubio (the president’s nickname for him, not mine), posted to Elon Musk’s about.me page (also known as X) that the Trump hatchet squad was done eviscerating the U.S. Agency for International Development down to just 18 percent, and while he didn’t mention which programs were spared, Little Marco did note that the remaining development programs would now fall under the State Department’s purview. 

“After a 6 week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programs at USAID,” Rubio tweeted. The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States. In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programs we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department.” 

There was no word on how long it would take for those “saved” billions to make their way back into the one percent’s pockets…I kid, but seriously, nothing was mentioned about where the monies would now be spent. 

According to AP News, all of this began shortly after President Trump took office and immediately issued an executive order stopping foreign assistance because he wanted to review the money sent abroad. Trump claimed the “foreign assistance was wasteful and advanced a liberal agenda.”

It’s all a part of Project 2025, which was a MAGA dossier on how to end America as we know it. This is America’s third villain story. The first was stealing the land from Native Americans, the second was the inhumane treatment of African Americans, and the third and final act will be the destruction of the United States. And America couldn’t have chosen a better leader to destroy itself considering everything Trump touches fails flamboyantly or goes bankrupt. The destruction of USAid was so haphazard that Rubio and Musk had to try and woo back folks who’d received termination notices after learning that those people were essential to programs like “emergency nutritional support for starving children and drinking water serving sprawling camps for families uprooted by war in Sudan,” AP notes. 

Because this administration doesn’t read past the table of contents, they’ve not listened to those who’ve argued that ending aid in unsettled countries could cause a threat to national security because helping countries creates goodwill and bonds for America. 

But why would they care about that when there are people to fire?!

“In the weeks after Trump’s order, one of his appointees and transition team members, Pete Marocco, and Musk pulled USAID staff around the world off the job through forced leaves and firings, shut down USAID payments overnight and terminated aid and development contracts by the thousands,” AP reports. 

AP notes that the sudden shutdown of USAid has left many staffers and contractors stranded overseas, waiting on back pay so that they can return home. But why would the Trump administration care about those people when they clearly are the administration for the one percent?
