‘I Am A Racist’: University Board Member Goes Viral For Proudly Shouting The N-Word On Video

Over the weekend, a video began making the rounds on social media showing another racist and disgruntled Caucasian who just couldn’t keep his Klan-ish attitude to himself, so he went viral for slinging around racial slurs and proudly admitting to his racism.

Meet Jonathan Spanos, a restaurant owner and advisory board member at Penn State York in York County, Pa., according to CBS 21 News.

In the video, which started circulating on social media Sunday but was reportedly filmed in mid-October, Spanos can be heard in the midst of a heated dispute with what appeared to be another white man. The man Spanos was arguing with must have had a biracial sibling because Spanos repeatedly shouted at him about his “half n****r brother.”

At some point, Spanos is accused of being racist, because, well, he’s clearly racist. But don’t believe me; let him tell it.

“I am…I am a racist,” Spanos can be heard declaring with his whole chest.

“This hateful language has no place in our community and is not reflective of the University’s values or our desire to foster an inclusive environment,” Penn State York officials wrote in a statement. “The appropriate offices at Penn State have been notified and we are looking into this matter with urgency.”

The university was right to address the video immediately because it certainly couldn’t rightfully distance itself from the rabid racist who is listed as its commencement speaker for the graduating class of 2014. And that’s not all.

On its website, the university stated that Spanos endowed a scholarship to the school named the J. Spanos Family Trustee Scholarship in honor of his family members who graduated from the university.

Spanos was also mentioned on the university’s website as the current owner of popular seafood restaurant The Paddock on Market, located in eastern York County.

So, not only has Spanos been denounced by the university he has deep ties to, but York County residents who don’t like their seafood with a side of white supremacy know what local restaurant they shouldn’t be spending their money at.

The York branch of the NAACP also released a statement on Monday, calling for Spanos’ “immediate resignation.”

“The emotional trauma that this video ignites for African Americans is deplorable. The use of this demeaning term is not only offensive but also perpetuates the systemic racism that the NAACP has fought against for over a century,” said NAACP York President Jamiel Alexander.

The NAACP also called for Penn State York to do a thorough review of its other advisory board members and wants the university to facilitate “on-going open forums and discussions within the York community to address issues of racism and promote understanding and unity.”

Spanos had the privilege of resigning on Monday.
