A$AP Rocky’s on cloud nine this week — after beating a case that could have landed him in prison, he’s landed an enviable fashion gig.
Sunglasses brand Ray-Ban has appointed Rocky as its first-ever creative director. According to Billboard, the role will consist of him “guiding creative projects, redesigning retail spaces, and providing a distinct vision to the brand’s image and design going forward.”
The announcement comes three days after Rocky was found not guilty in a felony assault trial where he was accused of shooting former friend and crewmate Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli. NPR reported that he turned down a plea deal to serve six months, with him and his lawyers claiming that Rocky fired blanks from a fake gun that he carried for security. Court reporter Meghann Cuniff said in an interview with CBS Chicago that while jurors did believe that a crime was committed, that they had a problem with the “chain of evidence.”
When the verdict was read, Rocky ran and leaped into the arms of Rihanna, his pop star fashionista wife and the mother of his two children.

While Rocky’s case could have certainly jeopardized his freedom, it seems to not have impacted his star power at all. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against him in the fall of 2022, but he continued to land big moves since then. Rocky was announced as a co-chair for the 2025 Met Gala, he stars alongside Denzel Washington in the upcoming Spike Lee film Highest 2 Lowest, and he was selected as a headlining act in the upcoming Rolling Loud festival in California. His presence in the fashion industry is arguably as strong as it’s ever been, and he’s building up momentum musically after a 2024 that included solo singles and guest appearances alongside J. Cole, Denzel Curry, and Free Nationals.
The Ray-Ban announcement was likely something that was being worked on before the case went to trial, but they’re just one of several partners that apparently had faith that Rocky would make it out the other side.
Rocky’s first project as Ray-Ban’s creative director will be handling the release of the Blacked Out Collection, which redesigns the company’s core Mega Icons sunglasses with “gold-plated details and ultra-black lenses,” according to Billboard.
