A Prayer For Wisdom, Unity And Peace On Election Day
|
Religion has always played a role in politics, often influencing individual and collective beliefs and societal values. While politics focuses on governance and policy, religion in America, particularly Christianity, was once the sole factor used as a moral and ethical compass, even in politics. It’s hard to say where that stands now.
Yet, Titus 3:1-2 reminds us that it is our civic duty to be obedient to lawmakers as children of God/truth and to be kind to one another despite our differences. Here’s a prayer to guide our hearts and minds during Election Day:
Heavenly Father,
Your Word instructs us to lean on you in all things. As we enter this presidential Election, we ask for clear minds as we hit the poll booths to cast our vote. Give us the wisdom to do our research and make informed decisions, for we know that moments like Election Day not only affect us now, but shape generations to come.
Please place a hedge of protection over each voter using their citizen’s right as they travel to the polls. Whatever the outcome, regardless of whether or not our preferred candidates win or lose, give us hope — hope that the elected official will empathize with the heart of America and introduce policies that aren’t just led by capital gain, but justice, patience, and kindness towards all people. Rid disfunction, rid misinformation, and lead us to clear pastures rooted in a sound democracy that pushes us toward stronger and resilient communities.
We pray for peace that surpasses all understanding as America enters another transition of earthly power. Yet, we know where the real power lies. It’s within you, Lord. So we’re believing that you’ll protect our minds, protect our dwellings, and protect each political party. May the transition ahead work for our good and may you get the glory in it all.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve our country and have a voice in it. May we remember to embrace humility, unity, and respect as we walk through this time, lifting up those in leadership with prayers for wisdom and guidance. Strengthen our sense of community, remind us of our shared humanity, and help us move forward together in love, honoring the call to be compassionate, engaged citizens.
AMEN.
