Haitian Group Files Criminal Charges Against Trump, Vance Over Racist Conspiracy Theory
A Haitian group in Ohio has brought criminal charges against former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance. These charges stem from comments made about the Haitian population in Springfield, Ohio.
The nonprofit, called Haitian Bridge Alliance, filed at Clark County Municipal Court on Tuesday. You can see the list of charges by scrolling down.
In a recent debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump stated the Haitian community in Springfield is eating household pets like cats and dogs.
From FOX 8:
The attorney for the organization says there is probable cause the two committed crimes and they want a judge to affirm that, file charges and issue arrest warrants for both men.
“We want the judge to issue arrest warrants for Trump and Vance immediately, there is probable cause,” lead counsel Subodh Chandra told the FOX 8 I-Team Tuesday.
Reports show that Trump and Vance are being accused of disrupting public service, making false alarms, committing telecommunications harassment, committing aggravated menacing, and Violating the prohibition against complicity.
Lead counsel for Haitian Bridge Alliance said in a statement, “We want the judge to issue arrest warrants for Trump and Vance immediately, there is probable cause.”
It was unclear whether the Springfield Municipal Court would issue charges against Trump and Vance.
City officials keep coming out to report the same thing: that there have been no credible reports of migrants stealing and eating pets, and that they informed Vance and Trump of this before the former started spreading the rumor and the latter humiliated himself on the debate stage by repeating it.
Springfield has reported more than 30 bomb threats since Vance’s bigoted propaganda campaign began. Children have been put in harm’s way. Educators have been put in harm’s way. The Haitian community in and outside of Ohio has been put in harm’s way. Springfield’s Republican mayor has even expressed that he wants Trump to cancel a campaign stop in his city due to all of the chaos he and his running mate have caused.
The legal action by Haitian Bridge Alliance comes about a week after one Springfield resident who said her Haitian neighbor stole her cat ultimately admitted her claim was false.
“It was a mistake,” Anna Kilgore told reporters.
Kilgore spoke out after Vance finally admitted that the racist conspiracy theory was a lie.
“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do,” Vance said during an interview on CNN.
This is America.
