APD: One arrested after SWAT situation in south Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person was arrested after Austin Police responded to a SWAT callout situation in south Austin on Tuesday, the agency said during a media briefing.

Around 4:42 p.m., 911 dispatch received a call from someone saying his son was causing a disturbance in his home at 600 Corral Lane. That’s near South Interstate 35 Frontage Road. He told dispatch his son was breaking glass inside the home, APD Public Information Officer Ariel Crumes said during the briefing.

APD initially responded to the incident as a check welfare call. Officers arrived to the home and saw a large amount of blood while continuing to search for the man, who was not identified by police Tuesday.

Furthermore, the police said the man also had an outstanding warrant, and he refused to come down from the attic where he barricaded himself. Officers then retreated from the home and called SWAT. Crumes said a chemical agent was used during the SWAT situation.

The man was treated for his injuries he sustained prior to officers arriving on the scene, and Crumes said he is now in custody and being taken to the Travis County Jail.

No other information was released Tuesday.
